Bari-Uma Ramen, Jaya Shopping Centre

Hello!

This is a bit late but better late than never.

It was le boyfriend's birthday and he decided on Ramen for his birthday dinner. We wanted to try something new as well so we opted for Bari-Uma Ramen at Jaya Shopping Centre after looking at several blog posts on Top Ramen in KL.

The ramen shop is located inside the mall so just park inside the building since it's pretty jam in that area.

So sorry guys but I was willing a little unwell at the time so I might be a bit biased.

The interior was the typical Japanese setting with the daiso tea cups with the sakura on it. I wonder why a lot of places opt for daiso stuff...is it cheaper?? Anyway, there weren't a lot of people there that night.

Looking at the menu, we ordered ramen, gyoza and yakitori! I was quite surprised that they had yakitori so it was a must try. Le boyfriend had a Noritama-Uma Ramen while I had a Kara-Uma Ramen which was the spicy version.

Kara-Uma Ramen (RM26)

Noritama-Uma Ramen (RM29)

Presentation wise, it was nice but taste wise...it was a totally different taste compared to the usual ramens you get at Marutama or Ippudo. The char siu tasted like the typical siu yok (roast pork) you get at chicken rice shops. Moving onto the broth...all I can say is that it did not taste like the typical ramen broth and I was not impressed.

Gyoza (RM11)

The gyoza was sub par while the yakitori was depressing. They basically chopped meat and vegetables and skewered them. You can tell by now how disappointed I was with the food.

Green Tea & Black Sesame Ice cream (RM7.90 each)

At the end, we also ordered ice cream cause what could go wrong. Rite? The ice cream was obviously untouched for a very long time judging by how much ice crystals there were on top and inside the scoop

My verdict? Never going back again. If you want to try something different then go ahead but really not my thing.

That's it for this post!
Cheers!

Every Sundae by Cielo Dolci, Damansara Uptown

Morning foodies!

Where are you guys having coffee today?

After the Burgerlab pop up experience at GSC One Utama last night, le boyfriend had the random idea of trying Every Sundae at Damansara Uptown (DU) on the way home. It was only a 10 minute drive from 1U and plenty of parking in sight considering it was 10pm.

Le boyfriend had already been there with friends for his birthday and he was excited for me to try 'Nasi Lemak' ice cream. For my readers who do not know what is 'nasi lemak', it is a traditional Malay cuisine that is commonly eaten for breakfast in Malaysia and it literally translates to 'fat rice'. Don't be fooled by the name though, it's really yummy and would be a MUST TRY for those visiting Malaysia. =)

Sadly, there was no 'nasi lemak' flavour that night so shall be back another day to try.

On the other hand, check out their menu.

So, you get to make your own gelato/ice cream combi by picking a cup, a cone or waffles and topping it off with ice cream/gelato, toppings and sauces. Le boyfriend wanted to try something different so he got himself a Lavender Honey Ice Cream in a cup with Caramel Popcorn and Butterscotch sauce.

(RM12.50)

I wasn't really into the Lavender Honey but I guess it was ok. The popcorn on the other hand was pretty normal...I prefer Garretts

(RM24.50)

I, on the other hand, got a cone (which turned out to be a charcoal cone) with Salted Caramel gelato with a cotton cloud.

Whoaaaa! The cotton cloud was bigger than expected! Check out my face!

I was thinking, "How in the world do they expect people to eat this?"

First things first, I starting eating the gelato because it was melting and Malaysia isn't the best place in the world to eat ice cream for hours. Then, I attacked the cotton cloud...it actually fell off the handle after that and I held it with my fingers instead. It did not help that the toilet was Out of Service but le boyfriend said it was about time it went out of service cause it was NASSSTY! (in the words of That's So Raven)

I kinda think that I went with the wrong choice with the cotton cloud...cause it was sweet on sweet which made it unbearable. Also, I love salted caramel ice cream but I think that when you turn it into gelato...there's a certain taste to it? Le boyfriend had to finish my gelato because it made me really 'chai' or 'jelat'. A bit like eating a lot of carbonara pasta and you get sick of it? That kind of feeling.

My verdict? It wasn't really a good experience for me but I would definitely go back for the 'nasi lemak' ice cream and for a different combination because I think the combi I took was wayyyyy over the top!

That's it for this post!
Cheers!

More Kit Kat! - Sakura Matcha

Whoa whoa whoa!

Don't die CRNomz! That's what I think leaving for too long means so more posts more posts!

OK! Getting back to my Kit Kat haul from Japan, here's some Sakura Matcha or Cherry Blossom Green Tea.

For those of you that have not tasted sakura before, it has a unique taste and the matcha gives it a nice sweetness which makes it one of my top 5 Kit Kats. Plus the packaging is so cute especially when you visit Japan in spring.

Ahem to those of you that have tried more than ONE sakura dessert and still like it...I must say...I'm so confused!! Let me tell you guys that the first time I tried a sakura dessert was a sakura mochi and I was super duper excited because you see these things in anime all the time! Little to my disappointment that it tasted HORRENDOUS! Not even terrible... horrendous... I was scared from that day on but when in Japan, just try everything! The next desserts I tried were Sakura Chiffon Cake & Sakura Latte from Starbucks which were super yummy! Probably because of the sugar but it made me enjoy the strong sakura taste.

Well, if you want to get a sense of what sakura tastes like, get someone to get you some sakura matcha kit kat or just hop on a plane and try it yourself! Do note that it's best to go during sakura season which is from mid-March till end of April if I'm not wrong.

That's it for this post!
Cheers!
