More Kit Kat! - Sakura Matcha

Whoa whoa whoa!

Don't die CRNomz! That's what I think leaving for too long means so more posts more posts!

OK! Getting back to my Kit Kat haul from Japan, here's some Sakura Matcha or Cherry Blossom Green Tea.

For those of you that have not tasted sakura before, it has a unique taste and the matcha gives it a nice sweetness which makes it one of my top 5 Kit Kats. Plus the packaging is so cute especially when you visit Japan in spring.

Ahem to those of you that have tried more than ONE sakura dessert and still like it...I must say...I'm so confused!! Let me tell you guys that the first time I tried a sakura dessert was a sakura mochi and I was super duper excited because you see these things in anime all the time! Little to my disappointment that it tasted HORRENDOUS! Not even terrible... horrendous... I was scared from that day on but when in Japan, just try everything! The next desserts I tried were Sakura Chiffon Cake & Sakura Latte from Starbucks which were super yummy! Probably because of the sugar but it made me enjoy the strong sakura taste.

Well, if you want to get a sense of what sakura tastes like, get someone to get you some sakura matcha kit kat or just hop on a plane and try it yourself! Do note that it's best to go during sakura season which is from mid-March till end of April if I'm not wrong.

That's it for this post!
Cheers!

Sangkaya @ Salt 'n Koffie, Jaya One

Hey ice cream peeps!

If you like coconut water and ice cream then you're gonna love Sangkaya's coconut ice cream!

The first time I tried coconut ice cream was at the Sleeping Buddha Temple in Penang when I was very young. My parents are from Kelantan so we used to drive back all the time and on the way, we would visit the temple. I would always get a cone or cup of coconut ice cream when we went.

Recently, the ice cream uncle isn't there anymore so I was quite sad since it isn't the same when visiting the temple and I don't get to eat really tasty, cheap and refreshing coconut ice cream...UNTIL! my friend posted a cup of Sangkaya ice cream on her instagram!

On a spontaneous trip to Jaya One on a dessert run, le boyfriend and I passed Sangkaya and decided to get a cup! We got the special which comes with 4 scoops of ice cream in a coconut husk with 3 toppings of your choice. We chose cereal, cornflakes and chocolate sauce!

Sangkaya Signature Coconut Ice Cream (RM10.50)

It was delicious!!! A little creamier compared to the ice cream from my memories but yummy all the same! I loved it with the cereal toppings! My verdict? When can I have seconds? =D

Mad About Coco, Fahrenheit 88

Happy belated Valentines everyone!

I hope you all had a good Valentines! Mine was spent at home with too much fish head noodle soup! Hahaha! Don't get me wrong, we did have a plan for the day until we realised that every restaurant will probably jack up the prices and everywhere would be full.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________

^ I wrote that a month ago and I have no idea what I was going to write next anymore...=P

Anywayz! I finally got a chance to meet up with some of my friends that I met in Melbourne during my RMIT days! I hadn't tried Mad About Coco yet and was dying to try after le friend Jun said they had cronuts! *Can't find a decent cronut in Malaysia...le sigh*

Alright! Enough talking! Let's get to some photos!

We went to the branch at Fahrenheit 88. It is located on the 1st floor near the back if you're coming from the Bukit Bintang entrance. It's pretty spacious and it has a nice view of Bukit Bintang. The four of us grabbed a table at the back.

We noticed this stand with afro wigs and big funky glasses on the way in and guess what we did! XD

Man! That was so funny and fun at the same time! You gotta take some photos and selfies with them on when you go over!

On to the food! I obvious ordered the Magic Cronut and I also ordered a Chocolate Bomb drink a.k.a. hot chocolate. The girls ordered a Innocent Devil Tiramisu Ball cause we heard it's fun to play with...oops!...I mean eat! XD

Chocolate Bomb (RM12)

The drink came first! It was pretty cute with the frozen chocolate heart with the Mad About Coco Sticker at the top! It turned out to be one of those hot chocs where you get a block of chocolate and a cup of hot milk then you just stir the milk with the chocolate and PRESTO!! you have hot choc! My verdict? Meh...chocolate mixed with milk...not that impressive...

Magic Cronut (RM20)

Behold the magic cronut! with its shot of chocolate sauce and oreo crumble! My verdict? ABSOLUTELY TOO MUCH! The chocolate is super overpowering and made us super jelat! The cronut was also not flaky but hard...it was so hard to cut especially since there's cream in the middle...

Innocent Devil Tiramisu Ball (RM20)

Finally the Innocent Devil Tiramisu Ball! Presentation wise...pretty and following the latest trend I guess? You had to free the trapped tiramisu from the chocolate ball prison by helping the brownie soldiers pour the moulten chocolate onto the ball! It was pretty fun to watch the chocolate melt the ball in unique ways since each person pours differently. Taste wise? Nothing special...

I would say that Mad About Coco is one of those trendy chocolate cafes where you can get your bi-anual chocolate fix then get really sick of chocolate and avoid it for the next few months...thus why I say bi-anually. I probably won't go back again but good for a try and some joking quality time with wigs and friends! =)

Let me leave you guys with some chocolate doodles! Can you see the bike? That's it for this post!
Cheers!

Beni-Imo/Red Potato Kit Kat

Hi Kit Kat Junkies!

If you've read my Kit Kat Haul post then you'd know that I have a lot of Kit Kat to review! Today's post is on Beni-Imo (紅いも) Kit Kat or loosely translated as Red Potato Kit Kat.

Found this particular flavour at Aqua City Mall, Odaiba. There is a souvenir shop on the first floor which sells it. It is a bit more expensive compared to the other shops but that's probably because there are more sticks included. Priced at ¥2800 (~RM84) per box.

It actually tastes like a sweeter kit kat-ish sweet potato. It's pretty good on the first stick but gets a tad bit sweet after a while. Good for a try.

That's it for this post!
Cheers!

Hot Japanese Chili/Yawatayaisogoro Ichimi Flavour Kit Kat

Hi Kit Kat fans!

From my previous post, you all know that I have lots of yummy Kit Kats to review! After reading numerous Kit Kat posts on the internet, I went to Japan looking for chili Kit Kat and lookie lookie what I found the moment I almost gave up at the airport!

Hot Japanese Chili or Yawatayaisogoro Ichimi (八幡屋磯五ロ一味) Flavoured Kit Kat!

It looked like a normal dark chocolate Kit Kat but the taste sure isn't! It has a strong dark chocolate taste combined with the subtle spiciness of the chili! I love it!! No regrets on this one!

I only found this in one of the souvenir shops at Haneda airport. Sad to say the Kit Kat Chocolaterie was a bit far off for me to visit this time but definitely going next time to try more flavours!

That's it for this post!
Cheers!

Japan Kit Kat Haul

Konbanwa Kit Kat fans!

Hi guys! I just got back from a 2 week trip in Japan and what did I do when I got there?

BUY ALL THE KIT KAT!!!

I love Kit Kat but all we can get in Malaysia is Matcha (Green Tea/抹茶), Ichigo (Strawberry/苺) & Chocolate. I did come across a pumpkin (南瓜) flavour during the Halloween season which was surprisingly yummy.

Le bf and I went to Kyoto (京都), Osaka (大阪), Swan Lake (山中湖) & Tokyo and here's what we got!

Here's the list of flavours:

Uji-matcha
Rum & Raisin
Yokohama Cheesecake
Sakura Matcha
Wa-Ichigo
Hokkaido Red Bean
Amaou Ichigo
Strawberry Cheesecake
Hot Japanese Chili
Beniimo (Red Potato)

I will be posting a few at a time since I would like to savour the tastes =D

That's it for this post!
Cheers!

Madame Waffle, Mid Valley

Hi all!

I've actually got a few places to review so look forward to them but for now, I shall leave you will a short one.

Madame Waffle! I first saw their waffles on my friend's instagram and I immediately went, "Waffle...looks good...want..." To my luck, my friend Jun wanted to go for food and a movie and I of course picked Mid Valley due to cravings.

DARN YOU CRAVINGS!!

The shop is located on the mezzanine level on the newly renovated area of 3rd floor Mid Valley. I have to say they did a bang up job of the renovation. It looks incredible now!

Ah hem! Back to the waffles, it didn't occur to me that it was a Japanese waffle store until I got there. Well cause when you think of Belgium waffles you think Europe or maybe that's just me.

They have a wide range of waffle flavours and waffle platters. We were quite full after the movie so we opt for a original waffle for me and a dark chocolate waffle for Jun.

After paying, you get this block of wood with a number pasted on it. Once your order is ready, they will shout out your number. A bit rough for a Japanese cafe...

Original (RM5.90)

I would always try the Original flavour when facing waffles and I really liked Madame Waffles! It was crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I think they drizzled a littlw honey on it for some sweetness. Nice taste!

Dark Chocolate (RM6.90)

The waffles came in a type of wax/oil paper where the oil from the waffle can seep in but you hands will remain clean. The chocolate waffle came with an extra layer of plastic...to prevent chocolate wastage?? Not really sure of the purpose... Anyway! Jun says it was quite good also!

Quote from both of us: "It tastes like bread!"

Yes, we both said that and it's true. The waffle tastes like bread and a very fluffy bread at that. My verdict? Good place to chill and good food but I do suggest you go when you're not so full that you're going to explode! like what we did... hehehe =P...because it tastes like bread, and it actually is as filling as bread too.

That's it for this post!
Cheers!

Nana's Green Tea, One Utama

Hi all!

So I finally tried Nana's Green Tea! I would always pass by the restaurant in Mid Valley and it would always be full with a line of people outside waiting for seats...

When I heard that there was an outlet in One Utama, my eyes brightened up! I kinda dragged my friend to the restaurant there for tea eventhough she doesn't like matcha sweets. =P

Nana's is located next to Secret Recipe in the Old Wing of One Utama at the Rainforest Area. It surprised me a bit when we turned the corner at Secret Recipe to find it lead straight into the restaurant!

We were seated on the mezzanine floor by the side. The menu was what was expected...thick and full of GREEN! It was quite interesting to see how many types of matcha dessert one can make.

Their best seller was a matcha parfait which consists of matcha ice cream, cornflakes, more ice cream and matcha jelly. I wasn't in the mood for a parfait since it's quite filling so opted for a Matcha Slushie instead.

The food came quite fast but it's dessert so...

The slushie was tea jelly and black beans in a matcha slushie. The black beans were really weird to me but the slush and jelly were OK. I wouldn't say it was top of the world but OK.

My friend Elle was looking for something NON-matcha in the menu and decided on a Hoji 'Chocolate Gateaux' Parfait... It didn't cross her mind that hoji was roasted green tea until she tasted the ice cream at the top!

The parfait had hoji ice cream on top with a snall slice of chocolate cake, cornflakes, vanilla ice cream and hoji jelly at the bottom. Guess who had to eat the tea parts! I thought the taste was fine but you can't expect much from tea parfaits and the cake according to her was hard and plain.

Final verdict? I might come back to try their savoury dishes since some of them sounded interesting although the comments on Foursquare weren't very assuring but the desserts are not so much as wow as I expected it to be. Classic case of showing up with too high expectations and getting so-so results. Good place for green tea I guess, come here if you want green tea but not just green tea! If you know what I mean! XD

That's it for this post!
Cheers!
